About
The Bennett-Curtis House, an 18-room mansion, was built in 1900
by George M. Bennett. It is set on spacious grounds shaded by
100-year-old maples, flanked by bubbling fountains, sweeping lawns, lush
cool ferns and colorful flower beds. An old-time veranda is furnished
wit a swing originally purchased for the house in 1918 at Marshall
Fields. A legacy from the Bennett's occupancy of the house is an
exquisite Bristol Vase displayed on the fireplace mantel in the foyer.
In 1919, Illinois Senator Edward C. Curtis bought the mansion and made
many major renovations, including conversion to electricity and the
addition of two sun porches.
You'll enjoy soaking up the atmosphere when you visit this stately old
mansion. Perhaps you will be seated in the living room, featuring a
turret with original curved windows and hardwood floors with inlays;
formal dining room with moray cloth walls; sun porch; rose room,
featuring a beautiful 7 1/2' circular piece of stained glass; breakfast
room; garden room, over looking the back yard gardens; or one of the 2
upstairs private dining rooms. All beautifully furnished and decorated
with antiques and hung with rich velvet drapes. Be sure to visit the
Senator's lounge on the main floor featuring a 100 year old bar.
The current owners, Scott and Kerry Zizic live in the home with their 5
children. The Bennett-Curtis House has accommodations for 2-275 people
for whatever your occasion may be. We are by reservation only and serve
